Welcome to my blog. I write about everything here - successes, failures and stumbles in healing my heart, my home, my health and a sailboat.
I’m a Kentucky native (GO CATS!) living an island girl life on beautiful Marco Island in Southwest Florida. I'm a journalist looking for my next path. I was a financial reporter and editor for Bloomberg News for 16 years until I was laid off in June 2017. Before that, my career took me from Indiana, back to Kentucky and to North Carolina working for daily newspapers. I also have taken the occasional excursion for work or play (hockey or running usually) to Afghanistan, Iceland and the Czech Republic.
I began this blog Oct. 1, 2015 as an outlet for creative writing I had been missing for years, as a way to share my life with friends and family far away but mostly as a way to heal myself and to find a way to be the best human I can in this world.
Sink or Sail - I wanted to heal my broken heart after an emotional, intense and ultimately unhealthy relationship. I wanted to heal my home - a fixer upper townhouse I purchased thinking I had a live-in expert who left me without a functioning kitchen. I wanted to heal two small sailboats I purchased that both needed help - one I ended up taking a sawzall to and taking to a recycling center in July 2017. I have added a fourth healing need during this process - my health. I'm in the middle of healing my gut, my lungs after more than a year of severe illness.
I hope y'all find my blog entertaining, honest, informative, maybe even thought provoking. I like to share photos, videos, recipes, silliness, sadness and happiness as I "get through this thing called life" as Prince said. Please subscribe and come along for the ride. Feel free to leave comments, recipe suggestions or joyful thoughts on any post that moves you.
